Toshiba’s original Resolution+ technology took your grainy standard definition pictures, and polished them up for the big screen. The new version goes a step further, enhancing the vibrancy, detail and clarity of anything below Full HD. Read on, and we’ll show you how Resolution+ can squeeze the very best from every bit of TV-connected kit you own.
It works for SD sources
Our TVs with Resolution+ take standard definition (SD) inputs and apply processing before slapping the pictures on-screen. The process is known as upscaling, and the result is an image that’s closer to high definition (HD) quality, even from standard picture sources.
There’s a lot of technical wizardry behind the scenes, and the process involves more than simply stretching the smaller SD image to fit the larger HD resolution.
Resolution+ analyses the picture three times before you see the result, with processing to define edges and textures in more detail, as well as comparisons to remove any blur or processing errors. In the end the picture looks crisp and clear, and it all happens without you needing to intervene.
Resolution+ is quick too, so you won’t notice any delay. The only result you’ll see is a sharper, richer image, no matter what you’re plugging into the TV.
It’s not just for DVDs
If you’ve heard the word ‘upscaling’ before, it’s probably been preceded by the word ‘DVD’. Many new DVD players use similar technology to Resolution+ to squeeze more detail from your existing DVD collection. The difference with Resolution+ is that, by putting it into the TV instead of the DVD player, Toshiba’s technology can upscale any input, not just DVDs.
That means games consoles, set-top boxes or even digital cameras and camcorders benefit from Resolution+ processing as soon as they’re hooked up. Don’t just upscale one of your telly companions, use Resolution+ to improve them all!
HD has never looked better
Toshiba’s original Resolution+ technology gave extra depth and detail to SD pictures, but the latest version also tackles HD images too. Why would you want to upscale HD images, you ask? Because not all HD is alike.
Full HD is the very best you can get, also known as 1080p HD, but there are two other types of HD picture, which work at lower quality: 720p and 1080i.
Resolution+ will take those pictures and work its magic in exactly the same way as it processes SD pictures, giving even HD sources, such as the Xbox 360, an extra boost in quality.
How to get it
Our newest TVs pack the very latest, and very best Resolution+ technology. The REGZA RV series is able to upscale all their inputs to Full HD 1080p quality, as are the premium REGZA SL and REGZA WL Series.
The REGZA SL and REGZA WL Series also combine Resolution+ with LED backlighting technology, for the very best picture available.
