0 At the heart of the Toshiba Portégé is Intel’s new Calpella platform and its Core family of processors. Alongside the ultra-smart chassis design, powerful components and easy to use software, they bring a ton of horsepower and extra abilities without bulking up the R700’s design. Punchy performance
The Calpella platform is more than the Intel Core processor, it’s the entire interface between the Portégé R700’s components. There’s the ultra-fast 1066MHz system bus which lets them all communicate at speed, the integrated Intel WiFi which uses N-standard wireless to surf and swap files quicker than ever, and built-in power and security management to keep everything ticking over nicely, and safely.
But what you’ll notice most is the raw performance on offer. Intel’s hardware gives the Portégé R700 the ability to temporarily boost (i5 and i7 only) its processing ability when an application needs extra grunt. There’s also built-in HD graphics capability, so even high definition video looks slick and stutter-free.
On top of that, Airflow Cooling Technology designed by Toshiba and Intel keeps everything cool. The Portégé R700 might be screamingly fast, but it won’t heat up your hands in the process!
Battery-powered brute
The Calpella platform helps squeeze as much use as possible out of the Portégé R700’s battery between charges. It boasts improved power management which means less power is used by the laptop, so it lasts longer between charges.
With a standard six cell battery, you can expect up to 9 hours from the R700. Slip an optional nine cell battery inside, and the Portégé R700 will keep kicking for an astounding 14 hours between trips to the plug socket.
Depending on the workload, we’d expect you to get almost double the battery life of a standard Core series laptop using the Portégé R700, thanks to enhancements brought by the Calpella platform, and smart engineering such as Toshiba’s Airflow Cooling Technology.
Graphical prowess
The Intel Calpella platform supports integrated HD graphics, which not only means one less graphics chip heating up the inside of your laptop, but slimmer designs too.
At the same time, the all-new Intel HD Graphics capabilities inside the Portégé R700 also improve battery life, so you’ll enjoy those improved graphics for even longer!
