The Toshiba Camileo B10 is a super handy pocket camcorder, capable of grabbing full HD video on the fly and storing it on a spacious SDXC memory card, or playing it back to your TV via HDMI. But it's also got another ace up its proverbial sleeve: it can double up as a webcam so you can conduct long distance face to face chats with loved ones. Read on and find out all about it.

Webcam chats
Making video calls online has become an increasingly popular way to communicate - it's not only cheap (most major services are free) but immersive. Why just hear your partner thousands of miles away, when you could see them too? That's why the Toshiba Camileo B10 includes this functionality, letting even those without a dedicated or built in webcam, or a mobile with a front facing camera, in on the chat action.

How it works
Using the Toshiba Camileo B10 as a webcam is easy. Just hook it up to any modern Windows computer through the bundled USB cable, follow the instructions and you'll be away within minutes or less. If you get stuck, there's an instruction manual included on a CD in the box.

What's the advantage
Even if you already have a webcam, it's worth considering the Camileo B10 for a number of reasons. Firstly, the five megapixel CMOS sensor is likely to produce far higher quality images than a cheap USB peripheral, and secondly, you can move it around wherever you like. Laptop webcams are limited by the arc of the screen's hinge, but you can place the Camileo B10 wherever you like, leading to all sorts of possibilities: you could even use it as a makeshift baby monitor to keep an eye on your kid.

Stand included
Using a pocket camcorder as a webcam might sound impractical, but it's not: the Camileo B10 comes with all the accessories you could need to put it to this use in the box. As well as a carry pouch, you get a tripod for standing it up right and going hands free, and a power adaptor, so that your lengthy tête à têtes won't be interrupted by the battery running out of juice.
