What is XDE? eXtended Detail Enhancement Technology
If you’re anything like me you won’t want to throw out your DVDs just yet to replace them with high def versions – although it is tempting to be able to watch them in higher quality. It’s for just this reason that the XD-E500 exists. The XD-E500 improves normal DVD picture quality beyond that of a standard DVD player.
eXtended Detail Enhancement is a proprietary technology that makes it different to your average upscaling DVD player. There are three additional video processes which help deliver sharper, cleaner images with richer, more vibrant colours and contrast. Looking at these more closely, first up is ‘Detail Enhancement’ which enhances image edges while reducing noise at the same time. If you’ve ever seen a DVD played on an XD-E500 you’ll know what we are talking about. Detail such as brickwork or tiles are much more defined. Secondly is ‘Intelligent Colour’ which enhances the blues and greens which often suffer on other upscaling players. By making the most of nature and improving richness, colour mode really comes into its own during outdoor scenes. Thirdly is ‘Contrast Enhancement’ which improves contrast in dark areas while still maintaining brightness in the areas that need it. When combined with sharp mode it results in a much clearer viewing experience. In simple talk the XDE modes alter sharpness, colour and contrast.
The three modes can be switched on or off depending on your preference but if you leave them on you’ll certainly notice a difference in the picture quality and as we like to say it will ‘breathe new life into your existing DVDs!’
